DE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL OLIVE OIL COMPETICION (NYIOOC)
THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL OLIVE OIL COMPETITION (NYIOOC) AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE 'GOLDEN AWARD' FOR DEL CETINO OLIVE OIL.
The international competition in New York rated the quality of olive oil and is the largest and most important of its kind.

It is organized by OLIVE OIL TIMES, a leading American magazine, specializing in the world of olive oil (comparable to, for example, Wine Spectator).

In view of the increasing worldwide attention to olive oil, there has been a growing number of local, national and international competitions.
The NYOOIC NYIOOC is the undisputed international reference for seriousness, quality and stability in this 'wild growth'.

2017 is the fifth edition of this contest, with producers from 27 countries and a total of 910 participants. The review is conducted by a jury of 15 renowned professional tasters from France, Italy, Spain, United States, Japan, Greece, Australia, Chile, Turkey and Tunisia.

The goal is to select among the participating olive oils those that meet the highest quality standards. Because of the different production areas (northern and southern hemisphere), the production modes (ecological or integral), different varieties (mono varieties and blends) and different flavor intensities ('delicate', 'medium' and 'robust'), different categories are distinguished.
Between the lavish producers, a distinction is made between the best in class, the golden award and the silver award. The assessment is, first of all, an appreciation of the top quality of the product.

Together with ten other producers, the DEL CETINO Picual won the highest award in its category (PICUAL, MEDIUM): the Golden Award. The winning producers will be presented in a book entitled "The Best Olive Oils of the World" and will be distributed worldwide.
Del Cetino's high distinction and international acclaim is exceptional and important. Not only because there is a lot of Picual oil produced in Spain, so the category is very competitive, but also because the top awards or prizes have gone to reputable and prestigious producers. In other words, we can rightly be proud!

THREE VARIETIES OF PURE NATURE FROM SPAIN.
-
Arbequina
A delicate oil, with a soft taste and a clearly distinct aroma.
Perfect for fish on the grill, on fresh lettuce or in a delicious mash to replace butter.
Features
The Arbequina olive is oval shaped and quite small. The harvest period begins in our region from the end of September. Its characteristic high level of linoleic acid explains the typical density and fruitiness of the oil as well as its typical "buttery" character.
At the same time, it makes the oil more susceptible to oxidation, which means that its shelf life is shorter than that of other varieties. So definitely do not save, but enjoy!
The oil is best stored and used cold to preserve its wonderful aromatic quality.

Picual
The typical Spanish oil with a fruity flavor and the heavenly intense fragrance of freshly mown grass. Equally delicious for hot and cold preparations!
Features
The Picual olive is medium sized and weighs about 3.2 gr.
It has a small dot (‘el pico’) on the bottom. Harvesting begins in mid-October.
The oil contains a very high content of unsaturated fatty acids and only a very limited percentage of linoleic acid.
The oil has a lot of body, is very fruity and soft of taste. This makes them suitable both for baking, salads and Gazpacho.

Verdial
This spicy oil of these green ‘verde’ olives has a slightly bitter taste and makes every salad a southern party.
Features
The Verdial olive is round and weighs about 5.7 gr. It is a local variety from the province of Huelva. The ideal harvest period begins at the end of November.
A harder peel and a high content of linoleic acid in the oil.
The variety is usually processed as a table olive. We use them to produce a remarkable oil that caught the attention of Spanish foodies and chefs: Soft, very fruity, with a slightly bitter touch. Perfect for both hot and cold dishes.
